BiographyMike Marotta's family has been making music on the Monterey Peninsula for most of this century. When the Marottas first arrived in Monterey, they were embraced by the local Italian and Sicilian community because they brought with them the music of the old country.
While still in his teens Mike went to Los Angeles to work in radio and eventually got a job with the Roy Rogers Band. After a stint in the army during World War II, Mike returned to Monterey and formed a band which became the house band at Pebble Beach Lodge. For many years during the Bing Crosby Pro-Am, Mike's band served as the official ``Clam Bake'' band. Monterey musician, businessman and community leader, Mike Marotta—also played at the first Great Cannery Row Reunion in May 1983—returns for a special appearance to make the Reunion complete with the "Music of Monterey and Cannery Row." His group played the early Cannery Row Reunions from 1983 though 1987 at the Conference Center, the Outrigger on Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. |
